Loved the Yakitori. Always check out their deals that they post on Instagram/social media, great deals on food and/or drink if you time it right. Love this place.
If you want a fun Japanese retro restaurant/bar experience, walk into Torrance Yokocho which provides you a little of everything. Although the menu says you can order from 10 different restaurants, it's actually 10 different restaurant varieties of Japanese food styles and alcohol bar in one restaurant. I highly recommend making reservations. Great Alcohol bar selection from Japanese beer, IPA, Shochu, wines to different varieties of Sake/mix drinks. You can order yakitori, teppan, sushi/sashimi, izakaya, ramen, udon, and desert. Everything we ordered was really good. The only thing that was a bit frustrating was trying to order through the QR code. The menu is so big, it's very easy to miss out on certain things on the menu. Really fun place to have dinner with friends. Bonus: retro Japanese music playing which makes you feel like you are in Japan.
Coming here on a weekend dinner time around 6PM, we got really lucky to be seated without a reservation. The decorations throughout the whole interior including the ceiling and walls are super cute and reminds me of Japan. We got seated into one of the booths which is a great option if you want more privacy as they are covered in noren curtains. I think the other tables or counter might be a better option if you want the lively atmosphere though. You order using the tablet set on each table or a QR code, and it was convenient that each of us were able to order separately and have individual checks. The food came out pretty fast which I was surprised since the restaurant was full and busy. Highly recommend the Gobo Chips to share! Overall, it's a really nice place to get drinks, light food, and enjoy a bit of Japan.
We had such a great time on our first (of many) visit to Torrance Yokocho!!! The restaurant decor provides an immersive experience that makes you feel like you've been transported to Japan. I especially love the private tables/booths! Entering from the side off a small walkway which feels like you're coming in off a small alleyway adds to the authenticity. Love, Love, Love this place!! The food is soooooooooo good!!! You order on a tablet at your table from a selection of several specialized menus. There is Yakitori, Ramen, Sushi, Karaage, Tempura & Oden plus deserts & drinks. In addition to a pitcher of Sappora Beer & Hot Sake we had: - Karaage (Japanese fried chicken) - Yakitori Chicken Thigh - Yakitori Chicken Skin - Yakitori Beef Skirt Steak - Yakitori Pork Belly - Yakitori Sausage - Tuna Sushi Roll - Assorted Sashimi Multiple orders of everything because it was all so good :) We spent almost 2-hours eating, drinking & having a great time! I think we ending up ordering 4 separate rounds of food LOL The serving staff is very friendly and kept bringing the waves of food we ordered quickly. The owner even came by the table to see that we were enjoying ourselves and made a few recommendations. I'm so happy to have such a unique, delicious place in Torrance! We are coming back next week :)
When I walked in, I was like, "wow, social media hyped this place up". But as we ate our food, I started to realize what a unique place with good food. We didn't have a reservation and were able to be seated right away coz we got there right when they opened. We ordered the skirt steak, a few skewers, and the kimchi pork belly. We sat, we talked, and just chilled. We were looking to order some rice but we had to order a whole pot. The rice price surprised us but when we got it and tried the authentic imported Japanese rice, we ate it all up. The fluffy rice of our dreams. The servers were kind and would definitely come back for the experience.
Came here on a Friday night with a group of seven. Because of the size of our group, we weren't able to sit in one of the yokocho-themed booths. Instead we were in the open area with more tables, but it was decorated there too. There's a QR code provided at the table that handles the menu and ordering. The menu is categorized by different "restaurants," including sushi, yakitori, ramen, tempura, etc. Our group ordered several items across the board. Our favorites turned out to be the gobo chips, mini bara chirashi bowl, maru gyoza, and mitarashi dango. We also got the daikon salad. The portion size was large, which was a nice surprise. All of these I'd definitely order again. Some other dishes we tried included unagi yakitori, chicken heart yakitori, tempura kabocha, karaage torimomo, karaage ikageso. I enjoyed the yakitori, but I wish the karaage was served with a mayo or another dipping sauce. If you want to try the specialized rice imported from Japan, be prepared to wait an hour. The long wait is due to it being cooked in a clay pot, the traditional way. We tried the $20 one, and waited the full hour. Honestly, it was the smoothest rice I've ever eaten though! Torrance Yokocho is located in Rolling Hills Plaza, between Bed Bath & Beyond and European Wax Center. Parking is easy to find. Reservations are a must if you're coming on the weekend. Overall I enjoyed eating here. I'd come back again!
Really enjoyed this restaurant. With reservations, you can get a booth with curtains that provide an extra layer of privacy. Feels very intimate and makes the dining experience far more enjoyable. Booth also has a coat hanger which I haven't seen in a restaurant in a while! Sashimi was excellent. Salmon and toro just melts in your mouth. Totally worth it! Yakitori and ramen were good but there are other places that are better.
Japan feels! I love Japan and Torrance Yokocho defintely takes me back to my favorite travel destination of the Land of the Rising Sun. This spot definitely has all the Japan feels the moment you walk in. It truly does look like a "Yokocho" or a "alleyway." In Japan on can find a lot of these alleyways that have hidden gem izakayas, bars, and eateries. At Torrance Yokocho; the boothes are within the "alleyway." They also some longer tables towards the back for larger parties as well as bar seating for some limited walk in diners. I would highly recommend making reservations way ahead of time because seating is hard to come by. The boothes definitely give the best experience. Even the booths give the Japan feels with Japanese printed menus on the wall and different Japan event posters. Ordering here is all via a tablet or a QR code on your phone. You can order from nine plus different restaurants here. Among the selections you can find are yakitori skewers, tempura, sushi, gyoza, karaage. My friend and I chose to get Tsukune (ground chicken ball skewers) and Harami (beef inside skirt steak skewers), Tori Paitan Shoyu Ramen and Assorted Tempura. Food came out fairly quickly which was quite nice. I was worried as I saw some reviews say food comes out slow but that was not the case with us. We were even there on a Friday night! Food was pretty good and I enjoyed the skewers and tempura. The ramen was good but was far from the being the best that I had. Service was great overall we were even given complimentary green tea! I loved how it came in the cutest Japanese tea kettle. This place is definitely all about getting an authentic Japan experience! I can see why it's popular and is a fun place to visit to experience Japanese food and culture.
